Bahai House of Worship, popularly known as the Lotus Temple is an all faith house of worship located in Delhi. It is one of the most futuristic houses of worship in the world. Bahai temple is shaped in the form of a lotus, and has one innumerable awards and recognition from the architecture world. The temple is related with the Bahai Faith.

The shape resembles a blooming lotus that has its leaves surrounding it. It is so magical that it appears to be floating in water. There are nine pools that represent the floating leaves of the lotus have landscaped walkways surrounding them. There are stairs and bridges as well.

The marble Bahai Temple males for a magnificent site, and it draws in tens of millions of visitors. The temple was presented to the entire nation on the 24th of Dec, 1986.

Fariburz Sabha, the genius architect behind this marvel of architecture and engineering is of Iranian origin and based in Canada. The lotus was chosen by the architect as it is the National Flower of India, and is associated with purity and with a number of religions and faiths in India. The Lotus is a symbol of divine birth. The glorious culture of India is visible in the Faith. This is also common with the Bahai Faith, which believes in unity of religions.

Although a temple, the Bahai Temple does not have idols or priests in the interior. The openness of mankind is said to be worshipped, and there are only audio visual presentations and others showcased.

A visit to the sacred shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi is regarded as the most holy pilgrimage in India. Shri Mata Vaishno Devi is famous all over the world as a granter of wishes. It is widely believed that the sacred Mother fulfills all the wishes of her children.

Shri Mata Vaishno Devi inhabits a holy cave, which is situated in the folds of a mountain with three peaks. This mountain is called Trikuta. Millions of devotees throng the Holy Cave each year. The total number of pilgrims or yatris touring the region has crossed the five-million mark. The devotees that visit this holy site have a strong faith and belief. Nothing seems to deter them. The devotees are not just restricted to Indians. Foreigners, too, visit in large numbers.

The holy cave of Vaishno Devi lies at an altitude of 5,200 feet. Yatris need to engage in a trek from Katra’s base camp, which lasts for 12 km. Toward the end of the pilgrimage, yatris receive a blessing of Darshans inside the sanctum sanctorum of the cave. These darshans take the shape of three rock formations that are natural. They are known as the Pindies. The holy cave has no statues or idols. The holy cave is open throughout the year for darshans.

The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board was formed in the year 1986. It is commonly referred to as the Shrine Board. The shrine was formed under the Jammu and Kashmir Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Act. This board takes care of the shrine’s management. The regulation of the Yatra is also entrusted to the board. The Board had promoted umpteen developmental activities. These are aimed at transforming the yatra into a wonderful experience for the yatris. The Board has spent close to 125 crores in developing the infrastructure and other required facilities. The offerings and donations received by the Board are humungous. The Board diverts these funds toward improvement of facilities for the yatris.

The profound belief in Mata Vaishno Devi transcends all rational perception. Youngsters, aged individuals, entire families and children engage in a journey toward the shrine. Each pilgrim endures cold weather, teeming crowds, and immense physical hardship. Many pilgrims visit the shrine of Vaishno Devi several times in their lifetime. Such is the religious significance of the shrine.

Katra, which is separated from Jammu by a distance of 50 km, serves as the pilgrimage’s starting point.

On 26th December 2004 an earthquake occurred undersea. This earthquake led to the Asian Tsunami. The epicenter of the earthquake was the west coast of Sumatra, Indonesia. The earthquake released energy that is roughly equivalent to 475 kilotons of TNT.

Vibrations were seen and felt in different part of the globe. The complete planet is said to have vibrated by 1 cm. The primary earthquake triggered several secondary ones. Some of the tremors of secondary earthquakes were felt in Alaska as well.

Nearly 225,000 individuals lost their lives. 500,000 individuals were injured, belonging to 11 countries. Parents, sisters, and brothers were lost forever. Thailand, Sri Lanka, India, and Indonesia were the worst-hit countries.

Nearly five million individuals lost their houses. Millions were left without access to food and drinking water. Add to this one million, who lost their means of livelihood. The Asian Tsunami garnered a humanitarian response from almost all countries. Nearly $7 billion were pledged as humanitarian aid. Some of the worst-hit areas are still coping with the recovery process. The of 2004 is easily the worst disaster in contemporary times.

The disaster occurred in the following manner:

When the plates on earth’s surface move rapidly against one another, an earthquake manifests itself. This causes an abrupt energy release in the crust of the earth. This leads to seismic waves.

On December 26, 2004, an earthquake occurred between the plates of Eurasia and Australia in the Indian Ocean. The earthquake measured 9.0 on the magnitude scale, making it the biggest earthquake in four decades.

The earthquake lasted for numerous minutes. A tsunami was triggered immediately. Several huge waves, which spread for thousands of miles, swept the Indian Ocean. The formation of these huge waves lasted for several hours.

The earthquake gave a tremendous jolt to the seabed from a vertical angle. This caused water displacement. Cubic kilometers in hundreds were displaced. This energy emanating from the earthquake caused the tsunami.

Mammoth waves moved toward the shoreline. They were moving in the opposite direction of the epicenter.

The speed of the waves in the ocean reached 500 mph. However, when the waves reached shallow regions toward the coast they slowed down. However, there was a corresponding increase in height.

Some regions, including the Sri Lankan town of Kalutara, received no prior warning. The receding shoreline and the subsequent exposed sea bed were the only signs of the impending tsunami.

Tsunami waves hit the land regions at intervals of 5 minutes and 40 minutes.

What comes to my mind when I think of tourist places in India, I think about snake charmers, bullock carts loads of tantra and mantra. For any westerner India is still a land of gods and goddess. But don’t be surprised it was quite opposite of it. I started my visit to India landing in the British RAJ city or Calcutta or Kolkata.

Calcutta is India’s first modern city. This place over the years has gotten itself many names like, the black hole, the graveyard of the British Empire, the city of palaces. In the year two thousand and one the city was renamed Kolkata. This name is now more Bengali sounding. In fact this seems like it has been a city that is file with green shutters. These make the whole fixture of what seems like old Calcutta houses. These happen to glow in the heat of the afternoon. There are many trees that sprout from the many ledges with mold.

The city has honestly revealed itself in the past four years; there are many India tour packages available here which first take you around this amazing city n then you could continue onto other places around the country if you wish to.

Calcutta is one of the most happening tourist places in India. The city of Calcutta has revealed itself, one sleepy eye at a time. Today, the whole place is quite modern. This happens to be the first global city in the country.

The city has the remained of many worlds. The Chinese brought in the rickshaws, the Armenians the cemetery and during the war the Americans brought in Jazz.

The city has a lot of potential to eavesdrop. So if you understand English, then it is totally ok to start a conversation with a perfect stranger. You could also talk about anything like the weather or even Shakespeare for that matter.

Calcutta happens to be a place where people love their food. When you are looking for tourist palaces in India, Calcutta is so amazing because, over here you will find chefs who have served royalty and then they have come on here from the Mughal courts and brought in mutton rezala stew that is laced with cardamom. Cheese filled sambusas have been brought into Calcutta from the earlier Jews who had come here.

If you don’t have that much time to spare, then the best way to explore Calcutta would be to trace the route of the Hooghly, and from here you could meander on and off the main thoroughfares by foot. There is a tram, a subway system which is called the metro.

This is no way would be a luxury ride or anywhere along those lines. In fact the place would be grimy and a little dirty too. The history of the place is shown in almost every lane, almost like a diva in her aging days. And in fact Calcutta happens to be a place which was quite the diva once upon a time.

Let us take a look at the ever beautiful and intoxicating walled city that you have visited. Over here you may have lived as though it must have always been in the many mansions, courtyards and the lanes which have been winding. The markets rise around the royal palace of the city. Jodhpur is a beautiful city which is walled. All this is a huge and beautiful country like India where people live together despite having different faiths and having conditions for living being quite meager. I realized on the very first day of my Jodhpur travel that this is an oasis in the desert with its rich history and culture.

The whole walled city hums with life and activity. If you walk around for five minutes, you will be able to see the sprawling bazaar which is under the clock tower. You might also get a chance to see bulbous clay pots which are used for storing water. There are hot coals and tools that date back almost five generation, you will get a see a beautiful girl who carries cold ice in a pail. You might also get a chance to see an elephant man. There are many women who remove petals from roses to make their garlands. There is also a man who sells antique locks and has a business on the side of making dentures.

This place lacks pavements. There are homes and shops which go down the narrow alleyways. Here you may be able to see children right on the rooftops. These children would be busy enjoying themselves flying kites and such, not too far away is the call for prayer.

When you pass the old mansions, you will be able to see the big gates at the entrances of their mansions. The balconies are usually quite beautifully carved. When you come to the Mehrangarh fort, you will get an idea of how the nobility here in Jodhpur lived once upon a time. This city has been the predominant home of the Maharajas since their fifteenth century. I never even thought in my dreams that on Jodhpur travel I’d get to see the lifestyle and other things belonging to the great rajput maharajas of this desert kingdom.

The fort is beautiful looking and it is quite breathtaking as well. When you go inside the fort there is quite a lot to see. There are many different styles of jeweled daggers and palanquins. This also happens to be the view of the city when it is spread out right to that point which makes it sublime. There are many hotels here in which you could accommodate yourself. When you stand at the ramparts, you will find that these placed are dazzled by big blue houses in which the Brahmins live. These are dotted all over the city. The Brahmins used to do this to have their houses distinguished from the rest of the people in the city.
